LA, early December 2008.
The City of Dreams……
And the death of those dreams.
A trite bit dramatic? Yes, I concur. But such is life. And such is the case that in this city I found:
- Promise
- Benevolence
- Earth, Wind, and Fire
- The promotion of Noble ideas
- The Anticipation of others
- High End Movie Theaters
- Confusion
- In n Out Burger (3 x 3 Animal Style please)
- A ghost Metropolis (well, at least in the eyes of a New Yorker)
- Sickness
- LA male models (I’m tired of seeing Male abs!)
- Antipathy
- And an empty hotel room (in the metaphorical sense) framed by a spectacular sunset view
And Upon the completion of my stay in the Garden of the Gods region of LA.
I return to Downtown (stuffy nose and all) to prep for my return home and more so, to feel connected and reflected somehow/someway to the souls of this Metropolis.
Alone in this city I realize that now, more than ever, the candid capturing of ‘Strangers I Know’ is passionately and honestly related to my search for love. To feel connected. To absorb the energy of those who stand out in the crowd. Who struggle and shine. Who weather the storm. Who find heat in winter. Who waxe in motion and persevere with dignity in spite of the dreams once had/the dreams now deferred.
I can’t help but think of Walt Whitman.
A conduit of wisdom. An egalitarian.
Now, and only now, can I truly say without reservation, that I……… Understand.
