It begins with this image above, while shooting the ‘Fashion Meets New York’ story on location in Jackson Heights. As we were wrapping up the day that began 7 hours earlier in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn the incredibly talented and eagle eyed Diana Manzanares (MUA) noticed a fully dressed clown driving by set. We were able to convince him to park on the side of the road and pose for about 2 min with Nyakhor from REDNYC.
Most of the crew had a strange and somewhat humorous aversion to Flaco the Clown but for me there was something heart felt and poetic about the collection of colors and props that we all, at some point in our own lives, must wear. I mean this in a Paul Laurence Dunbar way.
That random and Happy accident lead to the concept and creation of the Day of the Dead shoot (Make Up by the hugable, loveable, and oh so inspirational Katie Pellegrino)
